ITINERARY

Day 1 ... Welcome to Hobart
Welcome to Hobart! On arrival take your complimentary transfer to your hotel. There is some free time for you to familiarise yourself with the state’s Capital. Perhaps head to Lark’s Distillery for a whisky tasting or just relax and enjoy Hobart. This evening meet your host Anneka Manning and your fellow travellers before enjoying dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 2  ... The Agrarian Kitchen
Today’s highlight is travelling to the much-loved Agrarian Kitchen Cooking School & Farm in Tasmania’s Derwent Valley which was created by Rodney Dunn and his wife, Séverine Demanet. Their vision was to create a space where local and seasonal produce is celebrated, diner’s experience a true sense of place through the food they eat and the local, fresh ingredients speak for themselves. On arrival, spend time in the garden, learning how they grow their own produce for use in the kitchen. Then it’s time to move into the kitchen as you join Rodney Dunn and Anneka Manning for a for a unique cooking experience followed by lunch or dinner.

Day 3 ... Cygnet Cannery and Glen Huon Dairy
This morning, head south to discover the rolling hills, lush countryside and apple orchards of the Huon Valley. Admire the spectacular views of Hobart, the Derwent River, Wrest Point Casino and Kingston before your first stop of the day in Cygnet. Visit the Port Cygnet Cannery where you’ll enjoy delicious morning tea and meet Franca Zingler, the owner and founder who will talk about her experience settling in the Huon Valley and how her German background has influenced her work. While savouring a variety of traditional German treats and sampling the beautiful local produce, you will learn about the history of the Cannery and its important role for the community of Cygnet - and the transformation of the site into a hub of exciting businesses. You’ll have the chance to meet an expert coffee roaster who is part of the Cannery precinct and taste their exclusive coffee blend.

Analiese Gregory will join your group at the Port Cygnet Cannery later in the day to share some tips and stories on foraging and also bring some samples of her freshly harvested seaweed and other local sea specialties for you to taste. Analiese has been described as a trailblazing, “goat-loving, cheese making, urchin diving chef/adventurer” and you’ll see how her diverse experience is reflected in her passion for food and local produce.

The final stop today is Glen Huon for an exclusive farm experience at Glen Huon Dairy Co, a sustainable, small-scale, organic dairy farm that procures the milk for Bruny Island Cheese Co. Meet the farm manager Richard, who will take you on a tour of the facilities, before you end the day with a unique dining experience of their own cheeses, bread and beer, all overlooking the picturesque Huon River Farm.

Day 4 ... Pickling, Preserving and Fat Pig Farm
This morning you’ll meet Michelle Crawford, a local food writer, stylist and photographer, for a preserving and pickling workshop in her studio kitchen at The Bowmont, a gracious, heritagelisted former bank in the village of Franklin. Using stone fruits from the local orchard, vegetables and foraged herbs, you’ll make two jars of Huon Valley preserves to take home with you, a lovely reminder of your time in Tasmania. Afterwards, enjoy morning tea of Agabaked scones accompanied by locallyproduced cream and home-made jams.

Next, you’ll explore a little more of the Huon Valley before heading to Fat Pig Farm, home to Gourmet Farmers Matthew Evans and Sadie Chrestman. Together, they run their 70-acre family farm, where they live and nurture food from the soil to turn into great meals for the farmhouse table. Learn about their sustainable farm practices as they take you on a tour of the farm, followed by dinner of produce grown from their garden. We’ll also meet Jim Chatto, Gourmet Traveller’s winemaker of the year, who will pop over to guide you through a pinot tasting.

Day 5 ... Tasting and Freycinet National Park
Today you’ll travel north to the Freycinet Peninsula where you’ll be treated to a tasting at a local family winery, from the wines to the stunning scenery, you’re sure to leave feeling relaxed! Then you’ll continue to your hotel for the evening, Freycinet Lodge in Freycinet National Park. The rest of the afternoon is free to enjoy the hotel and it’s surroundings – perhaps walk to nearby Honeymoon Beach. This evening, join Anneka and your fellow travellers for a BBQ dinner as you take in the views over the magnificent Coles Bay.

Day 6 ... Inland Adventures
Your first stop this morning is Cape Tourville Lighthouse and lookout, where you’ll be able to breathe in the fresh ocean air and take in remarkable coastal views. Then, travel inland past forest reserves and farmlands to the wine country around Launceston, known specifically for its premium sparkling wines. Here, you’ll stop for a leisurely lunch before continuing onto Launceston, one of Australia’s oldest cities with stretches of historic Victorian and Georgian buildings to admire. Stay at the unique Peppers Silo Hotel, a heritage former grain silo which was converted into sophisticated hotel accommodation. Settle in and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 7 ... Launceston Markets and Local Flavour
The day begins with an early start to meet the makers at the Harvest Markets with wine educator and food activist, Curly Haslam-Coates. Curly will introduce you to several of stallholders with a vast variety of produce. After your time with the stallholders, take some time to wander the markets and perhaps pick up your own stash of goodies before heading to the Bread and Butter Café for a delicious morning tea. Part of the Tasmanian Butter Company, this café is located in an old motorcycle garage, and locals come from far and wide to taste their freshly made bakery items and of course, their trademark butter. Return to your accommodation for an afternoon of fun and discovery. Curly will host a unique sensory food and sparkling wine experience with a fun playlist to accompany.

Day 8 ... Historic Ross, Whisky Tasting and Return to Hobart
Departing Launceston you’ll travel south through historic Ross and continue to the Shene Estate Distillery, home to Tasmania’s only triple distilled whisky. Here you’ll embark on a tasting journey of whisky and gin. Spending time at this property is truly a treat, as you’ll soak in the rich history and beauty of the area while sipping on some of the highest quality whisky produced. Continue to Hobart, where you can celebrate your journey over a farewell dinner of fine food and wine.

Day 9 ... Farewell
This morning, your trip concludes after breakfast. Take your complimentary transfer to Hobart Airport for your onward journey.
