Day 2 Welcome to Zurich

Upon arrival into Zurich, you will be met and transferred to the hotel. Relax for the remainder of the day in this cosmopolitan city, which combines creative urban life with the freedom of nature.

Day 3 Zurich - Chur - St. Moritz

This morning, take the local train to Chur, a pretty alpine city. Here you will have some free time to stroll the picturesque car free town centre, enjoying views of the snow-capped mountains that surround it. For your convenience, your luggage (one bag per person) will be transported directly from hotel to hotel, allowing you to relax and enjoy the days scenic train journeys.

Next you will be transferred to the train station for your journey to St. Moritz - the winter sports capital of Switzerland (approx. 3 hours). St. Moritz was the birthplace of Alpine winter tourism and has twice hosted the Winter Olympics. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel for check in and then enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. St. Moritz is the number one alpine holiday destination - its name is a registered trademark and stands for style, elegance and class. The city first became famous thanks to its mineral springs, which were discovered 3,000 years ago and established the town as a summer spa resort early on.

Day 4 St Moritz - Bernina Express - Lugano

After breakfast be transferred to the train station to take the Bernina Express from St. Moritz to Tirano (approx. 4 hours). One of the word’s most famous trains, the Bernina Express allows travellers uninterrupted panoramic views across mountains, lakes and meadows.

Crossing the Alps in style, the train climbs to an impressive 2,223m to the Bernina Pass and offers breathtaking vistas as you ride over impressive viaducts and past galleries hewn from sheer rock. There are beautiful views of rushing mountain streams, glaciers and even an alpine garden en route to the terminus in Tirano, which lies just over the Italian border. The line is recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

On arrival in Tirano, take the Bernina Express bus from Tirano Station to Lugano Station. This special bus with its large panoramic windows takes you on a journey through scenic countryside and villages. On arrival in Lugano, you will be transferred to the hotel. This welcoming town boasts a historic centre and attractive shops and restaurants to explore.

Day 5 Lugano - Glacier Express - Zermatt

Today be transferred to Lugano Station for another inspiring train journey. Take the local train to Göschenen and then on to Andermatt, where you will board the slowest express train in the world: The Glacier Express to Zermatt (total trip approx. 2 hours). The train winds its way up to over 2,000m at the Oberalp Pass, through an unspoilt landscape of glaciers, ancient forests, rushing mountain streams and valleys, passing through 91 tunnels and across 291 impressive bridges. It will be a truly unforgettable journey.

Arrive in Zermatt and transfer to the hotel. Zermatt, nestled at the foot of the mighty Matterhorn Glacier, is a charming car free town, where you can relax and enjoy the fresh mountain air and awe-inspiring views of the peak.

Day 6 Zermatt Free Day

Today is a free day in beautiful Zermatt, giving you time to explore the town and its surroundings at leisure. Or alternatively you can take an optional full day excursion to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise Station (not included).

Take the cable car to Europe’s highest aerial cableway and Summit Station at 3883m. Enjoy the panoramic views over the largest glaciers of the Alps and 38 impressive mountain giants of the Swiss, French and Italian Alps. Enjoy free time at leisure to explore the mountain and town.

Day 7 Zermatt - Montreux

This morning, take the local train from Zermatt to Visp and from there the InterRegional mainline train to Montreux (total trip approx. 2.5 hours). Montreux is located on Lake Geneva and protected by high mountain peaks. It’s famous for its mild climate and subtropical vegetation. After checking in, enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

The town's promenade is lined with flowers, sculptures, Mediterranean trees and grand Belle Époque buildings. Offshore is a medieval island castle, Château de Chillon, this fairytale castle is built on a rock standing off the shore of Lake Geneva and offers visitors a true experience of medieval splendour (entrance not included).

Day 8 Montreux - Panoramic Express (Golden Pass Line) - Interlaken

Today journey on the Panoramic Express, part of the famous Golden Pass Line. This spectacular train route travels via Gstaad – a favoured holiday spot of many celebrities – to Zweisimmen. From Zweisimmen, travel on by local train to Interlaken via Spiez (total trip approx. 2.5 hours). As the name suggests, this typical Swiss town is located in between two lakes and offers the best in outdoor sports activities, from rafting to hiking, skiing to paragliding. Upon arrival check in at the hotel and then enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 9 Interlaken Free Day

Today enjoy a free day at leisure in Interlaken. Explore the village and its stunning mountain surroundings, or perhaps take an optional trip by cable car and mountain railway to the Jungfraujoch, also known as the “Top of Europe” (not included).

Optional Activity: Cable Car and Mountain Railway to the Jungfraujoch  - $105 per person
The summit offers the best views over the Eiger and the Mönch from the Sphinx Terrace. The historic railways of the Jungfrau Mountains are an absolute joy. The network of narrow-gauge railways, cogwheel trains, aerial cable cars and funiculars offer the chance to discover idyllic villages and stunning mountain scenery. You will have plenty of time to explore the fantastic glacial Ice Palace and have lunch at your leisure.

Day 10 Interlaken - Lucerne

After breakfast take the local train from Interlaken to the beautiful city of Lucerne (approx. 2 hours), nestled amongst lakes and soaring peaks in the heart of central Switzerland. You could take a romantic walk through the city centre, admire the medieval Chapel Bridge with its gable paintings, or enjoy a delicious lunch (not included) at one of the many traditional restaurants.

Day 11 Lucerne Free Day

Today is a free day in Lucerne, allowing you time to further explore the historic city and its picture-postcard setting. Alternatively take the opportunity to join an optional full day excursion to Mt Rigi and the special cogwheel train ride up to the summit (not included).

On arrival at the top of the mountain, enjoy time at leisure in Rigi Kulm, taking in the panoramic views across the Alps, thirteen different lakes and the entire Swiss Mittelland through to Germany and France.

Cheese, meat or chocolate - Fondue is the national dish of Switzerland and should not be missed!

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide: 
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction in which he or she is guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves the group at the end of the tour, they do not travel with the group. 
 
Tour Leader: 
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides in each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village, and offer information on the place visited on the bus, however they are not required to have specific knowledge on art, architecture, or history. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and if caught doing so, can be fined. 
 
Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when particularly required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

From July to August the daytime temperature range is 18 to 28°C. 
In September, temperatures begin to drop as summer begins to fade away. The average temperature for Zurich in September is 15°C. The highest temperature for the month is 20°C.

Luggage:
